This year, show your support for Canada’s literary stars and The Word On The Street by friending an author!

For 22 years, on one extraordinary Sunday in September, The Word On The Street festival has brought to life a book and magazine lover’s paradise! Each year, we showcase Canada’s hottest new books & authors, as well as the best Canadian magazines, attracting 215,000 visitors, 245 Canadian authors and presenters, and 275 book & magazine exhibitors -- we host the world's largest outdoor bookstore!

As a non-profit organization, The Word On The Street relies on the support of our community to continue bringing a free, 100% Canadian literary festival to Toronto. Friend an Author (previously known as Adopt an Author) is a yearly fundraising campaign, hosted by The Word On The Street Canada in cooperation with The Word On The Street Toronto. It provides literary lovers like you with the opportunity to show your support for both the Festival and our wonderful Canadian authors!

So, please consider donating to The Word On The Street and participating in our Friend an Author program – your support would be much appreciated.

How it works:

You can friend an author with a $100 contribution to The Word On The Street Toronto!

With this contribution you will receive:

• The opportunity to friend an author of your choice from the provided list of available authors
• A copy of the book with the opportunity to have it signed by the author at the festival after their reading/presentation!
• Recognition for your contribution at the festival. Your name will be announced by the host prior to your author’s reading
• A personalized certificate detailing your friendship
• A tax receipt for your charitable contribution
• A chance to show your support for Canadian literature and Canada’s largest one-day festival!

Browse through our list of participating authors, choose one you would like to support or “friend”, fill out the provided form and mail it in along with your $100 contribution, and that author will be yours! This list will be continually updated throughout August and September, so make sure to check back throughout the month!

You can friend as many authors as you’d like, and each author can be friended twice. It makes a great gift for your friends, family or for yourself.

The deadline to adopt is Friday, September 14, 2012.
