As the official symbol for the 2010 Olympic Games the image of the inuksuk is everywhere; it’s the perfect time for children to learn all about life in the Arctic. This acrostic poem, complemented by beautiful paintings, celebrates the Arctic landscape, its people, culture, and traditions. Children will delight in searching for the inuksuk hidden in each painting.
Using flat stones and Plasticine, Mary Wallace will lead kids through an inuksuk building activity and speak about the different meanings some inuksuit convey.

This thrilling performance will explore a combination of chemistry and physics. Children will be awed as the Mad Scientist produces an extra hand to help with the experiments, a genie in a bottle and a giant foam snake. The fundamental forces of planet Earth will be summoned as the Mad Scientist turns a glass of water upside down without spilling a drop.
Jam with charlie and dancer Rosanna as the perform interactive songs. Their set includes: singing, chanting, percussion, flash cards, props, hats, wigs, masks and a variety of dances that will keep the mosh pit moving. Their music gets children engaged and instills a deeper appreciation of music, the environment and multiculturalism. Featuring the LTHH Class of 2008-09, this interactive workshop will introduce young people to the power of The Word in hip hop culture. It will begin with a game that all participants can enjoy, and will end with a hip hop showcase, featuring LTHH’s 2008-09 Graduates.
Literacy Through Hip Hop is an innovative literacy program for children in grade six to eight. This free after-school program uses the popular youth culture of hip hop as a means to engage children in their reading and writing. The aim is to improve the literacy skills of children in a crucial stage in their development by connecting it with something they are excited about.
Reptilia's interactive program allows the audience to be up close and personal with creatures from around the world that people may never get a chance to meet, all while learning fascinating facts and breaking common myths that have lead to the fear of reptiles. For the truly brave, you get the chance to touch the animals as well. At The Word On The Street, Reptilia will be bringing along a Turtle, Crocodilian, Lizard and a snake or two. Meet a python large enough for several voluteers to help hold!
Full of witty energy and wacky illustrations, The Insecto-files brings bug facts to life with simple, insightful experiments that feed into kids’ natural curiosity. Along the way, readers will encounter real-life insect inspectors and learn about their zany experiments, all in the name of science.
Each (cruelty-free) activity can be performed safely at home or, in this case, at The Word On The Street, Helaine Becker will lead kids through some simple experiments from The Insecto-files and share some bug facts.
The Funky Mamas are a delightful quintet who engage children of all ages with their captivating stage presence, charming antics and, of course, funkiness. The Mamas’ harmonizing vocals and playful instrumentation make their shows exciting, energetic and unique.
