Vancouver's The Word On The Street is Western Canada's largest celebration of words and reading. Held on the last Sunday of September at the downtown Library Square, The Word On The Street Vancouver promotes books and authors with free exhibits, performances and hands-on activities for a wide range of ages and interests.
Annually, Vancouver's The Word On The Street attracts an estimated 35,000 visitors, and hundreds of participating exhibitors, authors, performers and volunteers to Library Square for literary readings, cookbook demonstrations, music, contests, panels and much more.

The Society's programming mandate each year includes attracting a line-up of internationally celebrated and recognized Canadian literary talents to the festival. In past years we have featured scientist, environmentalist and writer David Suzuki; Canada's most well-known cartoonist, Lynn Johnston; Vancouver author Joy Kogawa; Greenpeace co-founder Rex Weyler; poet, Evelyn Lau; humourist Gordon Kirkland; Joel Bakan and Susan Musgrave to name a few.

Vancouver Board of Directors The Word On The Street is operated by the Vancouver Book & Magazine Fair Society, a non-profit organization (BC Society Act #S33376). The board of directors represents many facets of the writing, publishing and educational communities and meets monthly to ensure the health and vitality of the festival and its activities year-round.
