The Word On The Street Vancouver is the largest annual book & magazine festival on the West Coast. WOTS Vancouver celebrates literacy, the written word, and is seeking an enthusiastic team player who can take direction and work with minimal supervision to provide support to the WOTS Vancouver team. This is a full-time 12-week summer position ideal for students interested in the book and magazine publishing industry. This position is also an excellent opportunity to acquire valuable skills applicable in most office environments.

 

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • responding to inquiries from the public by phone/email
  • organizing and soliciting donations for the festival's silent auction
  • preparing mailings to talent and the public
  • database work, processing exhibitor registrations
  • distribution of promotional materials
  • working on our Author Adoption program
  • general duties as assigned

 

The successful candidate should have exceptional organizational and time-management skills and have computer skills in a PC environment. Applications should also have a good phone manner and previous fundraising experience would be an asset. A high level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills is also essential.

 

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs, a Government of Canada initiative. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30, must have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year, and be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Applicants must also be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Hours: Approximately 35 hours per week
